Eileen’s Foundation is dedicated to EDUCATING the youth of today; EMPOWERING them with a voice for tomorrow; and therefore, CHANGING the silence forever.
With the help of educators and sociologists, we plan to create teaching materials to help aid in EDUCATING the youth of today about domestic abuse. Once we have created the materials suitable for youths between the ages of 11-14 years of age we plan to then implement the material into health classes at a middle school as a test to see how the students respond to the lesson. Once we have completed the test phase we will then interpret our findings and see what areas need to be perfected. Once we have the material perfected we plan to implement this material in health classes nationwide. We will take our material and findings to school boards, educators, and elected officials to lobby support for our cause.
Domestic abuse is an epidemic that affects us all. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, “the cost of intimate partner violence exceeds more than 5.8 billion dollars each year. Victims lose almost 8 million days of paid work because of the violence perpetrated against them. 1.3 million women are victims of physical assault by an intimate partner each year. Boys who witness domestic violence are twice as likely to abuse their own partners and children when they become adults, and 30-60% of perpetrators of intimate partner violence also abuse children in the household.” With statistics such as these, it is easy to see how this silent and deadly epidemic affects each and every individual in the United States. Our program is designed to EDUCATE the youth of today; EMPOWER them with a voice for tomorrow, and CHANGE the silence forever.
